MEMBERS’ CLASSIFIED ADS MODULE ***LAUNCHED TODAY***

At last… the classified Ads facility is up and running… Yeeehaa!!

I know I’ve been banging on about this for quite some time but to be blunt, it has been something of an uphill struggle and a bit more complicated than I first thought.

However, all is now ready and I’m proud to unveil your fully functional secure sales facility.

All registered Old Photo Forum members are able to sell, barter and swap prints, memorabilia and provide member services relating to old photos.

If you’re wondering – why a classified ads section? Well I’m sure you’ve heard of Ebay, the online world’s largest auction site. Ebay is great but one of the main concerns many people have is it can in fact be way too big and many Ebayer’s items are often lost in the sheer volume of competition. There are many, many items that never get a viewing, never mind bids.

Another issue is that prices can be driven down on quality items, to the point where suppliers are dropping their ebay listings in favour of more direct and lucrative marketing methods. The best of which are individual web sites.

We all know that not everyone can knock-up a commercial website (or even wants to) and that’s why the Members’ Classified Ads facility exists, exclusively for registered Old Photo Forum members.

This is what you can use it for:

o Sell copies of prints from your old photo collection to
interested buyers
o Buy copies of favourite prints from collection owners.
o Sell your original postcards at a decent price – Ebayer’s have
dramatically eroded the value of such items over the past few
months.
o What price can you put on original memorabilia? Negotiate your
price with fellow members.
o If you have photo related services to offer fellow members then
advertise them right here.

I’m sure you can come up with a whole host of other things you can do with your ads!

How Much Does It Cost?

A basic ad costs £2.50 (equivalent to approximately 4.95 dollars or 3.21 euros) and can be run anywhere from 3 to 30 days for that fee.

You can add highlighting (50p), bold (50p) and italic (50p) to make your ad stand out. Payment for ads is taken via debit or credit card through PayPal and you don’t need to have a PayPal account for this to work.

If you do have a PayPal account you can also accept payment for the items in your ads through them as well.

However the great news is that for the next 60 days you can place as many ads as you want for absolutely no charge.

More great news is there is nothing more to pay to OPF, this is a flat fee per ad, we take no commission, as the facility is purely an advertising medium.

You place your ad and deal directly with your customer offline, by phone, email, letter or face to face… as you like. The transaction has nothing to do with the Old Photo Forum.

Security is always a big issue and although you have complete control over how your ad looks and the information within it. All ads will be moderated so please take note of the items you are not allowed to sell. Once fees are paid there is no refund if an ad is deemed unsuitable for the site and is pulled.

Knowing the quality and integrity of OPF members, I have absolutely no doubt that you will never knowingly advertise items or services that devalue the site and fellow members.

However, accidents may happen, so just to keep everything fair and above board please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the Disallowed Items list and the site’s Transaction Rules.

See the disallowed items list here:

http://www.oldphotoforum.co.uk/disallowed.html

See transaction rules here:

http://www.oldphotoforum.co.uk/transactrules.html

The following categories are available in which you can sell, buy or request your items or services, (If you have suggestions for others then please let me know).

o Prints For Sale
o Prints Wanted
o Postcards For Sale
o Postcards Wanted
o Photo Memorabilia For Sale
o Photo Memorabilia Wanted
o Other Items For Sale
o Other Items Wanted
o I’ll Swap Ya!
o Help Wanted!

I’ve tried to cover all eventualities but nothing is perfect, so if you find you’re getting stuck or things are not running as smoothly as they should (in other words if you find any bugs) please don’t hesitate to let
me know.

One more thing, to make things a little easier I’ve put together an Introduction to Classifieds video for you in the Quick Start Guide here:

http://www.oldphotoforum.co.uk/qsguide.html

or go straight to the video here:

http://www.oldphotoforum.co.uk/video/classifieds/classifieds.html

Okay, that’s it, time to take this thing for a run but please make sure to view the video first.

Don’t forget, you can place as many ads as you like for the next 60 days so make as much use of the facility as you can before payments kick in!

CAN I HAVE YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT THE OPF?

I wondered if you would mind jotting down a paragraph or two about how you see the forum?

What has been your experience with it so far?

Which are your favourite bits and what do you hope to get out of it as it develops?

To be quite frank it would also be a great help to me to have an honest opinion about what is great, good or not so good about the site. That information would certainly keep the focus on what needs to be improved and what should be left alone.

Of course I would need your permission to use your comments in future promotional material together with your name.

If you’re feeling particularly adventurous and have the facilities, you can also submit your comments on audio or even as a video. Don’t worry if that would be too much, the written word is just fine;-)

Please send your comments to me here:

Well, that’s it for this issue, I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any thoughts or comments please pass them on for the benefit of everyone:-)

See you in the next issue.

All the best,

dfox
